So I was thinking about what to blog about in December and I started thinking about the wildfires that are being fought near me in Western North Carolina. Thank goodness the worst is over, but there are still plenty of hotspots to keep the firefighters busy. So perhaps smoke and fire? Which then got me thinking about the elements: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. So consider this month as the first in a series about gemstones and the elements. Since December’s zodiac sign is Sagittarius and Sagittarius is a fire sign, we’ll start by talking about the Element of Fire. Translucent gemstones (diamond, amber, sapphire, topaz) are often connected with the elements of Fire and Air, while opaque gemstones (onyx, opal, turquoise, moonstone, pearl) are connected with Water and Earth. Gemstones of Fire are thought to have a positive influence on blood circulation and create a feeling of energy. In addition to the stones listed above, here are a few more Fire element gemstones. Often a piece of jewelry includes gemstones of various elements. It is better to have two stones of complementary elements (Fire/Air or Earth/Water). With that in mind, I created this double-sided pendant of Red Jasper (Fire) and Lapis Lazuli (Air). Ruby and fire agate are also considered a fire element. Ruby is not just plain red. Check out this beautiful ruby. These fire agate earrings are my final offering for this blog to give homage to the fire element. Next month, Earth. Until then! Nadine
