Has anyone told you lately that you sparkle? Well, you do! Everyone has some sparkle within them, and it's going to show.
Some of you may have a soft, quiet sparkle that one must look closely to find. Some of you are probably a more outspoken, "here-I-am" kind of sparkle. And then there are those that sparkle in the most unlikely places, when and where you'd least expect it.
Well, just like everyone has their own individual type of sparkle, druzy is the same. And like a person's individual sparkle, when you see it, you can't help but smile.
Druzy defined means covered with tiny crystals. And boy, if you have ever seen a druzy (drusy or druse), you know that's a pretty accurate description.
Most druzy stones are cut from the inside of geodes. You know, those geodes that you see in the science museum gift shops? Those. BUT, in my research for this blog, I found that druzy occurs when water brings minerals onto a rock's surface. When the water evaporates, cooling occurs and the minerals are left behind to form crystals on top of the rock. And ta-dah! Sparkle ensues.
When making my jewelry, I love finding druzy in unusual places and on unusual stones with beautiful colors. Here are a couple of stones that fit that bill.
Here are a couple of finished pieces. All but one have been sold. The earrings on the model are available on Etsy (a link is in the picture).
Sparkle on, my friends!
